May. 1st, 2009 @ 12:55 pm LAVENDER SECRETS in ebook!
Bedazzled Ink has published LAVENDER SECRETS as an ebook!

There's also a sale on all their ebooks that ends today (sorry for last minute notice) 10% off if you enter APRILSALE in redemption code. (at least I think it ends today...)

Anyway, not much else going on in the writing world. I'm outlining the next Terra/Nova SF book, but things are dog-slow.  The missus hurt her shoulder so I'm busy busy w/ the house, kids, dogs, sheep etc. Plus trying to get veggies going in the garden.

I'm all about the grow ur own these days. Even tried some of the 'edible' wild plants around.  For the record  - voilet flowers? kinda tasty. Dandelion leaves? Bitter as ALL GET OUT.  bluck. Edible is a relative term for them.

Try nasturtium leaves in a salad - very nice.

Stinging nettles make good soup too. (Do you have those in America??)

We planted nasturtium a couple of years ago but never picked the leaves. Dunno that we have stinging nettles.. sounds kinda prickly for a soup ;-)

No - no prickles. The fine hairs on the leaves contain formic acid and give a slight sting and a bit of a rash when you brush lightly against them but not if you grasp them tightly (crushes the hair) hence "grasp the nettle". Once you cook them the acid is gone and the leaves are harmless.

And apprently you do have them... Stinging Nettle

I'll second the nasturtium suggestion. Flowers and leaves both are nice in a salad -- they have a faint peppery taste. And the flowers add lovely colour.

Here's a third vote for nasturtiums. Delish in salads, and I think every part of the plant is edible. If you're ambitious, you can pickle your nasturtium seeds and made your own capers!

Dandelion leaves

Did you cook them? They're not bad sauteed with a little garlic.
